THRILLERS, KILLERS, AND CHILLERS: THE COLLECTED WORKS OF DOUG DAHLGREN, AUTHOR

That quote from Edmond Burke has been paraphrased by some, but the message is always the same.

It comes from a time that gave birth to our country and in one simple sentence explains the essence of what makes us free. The willingness to take a stand for what is right, against any odds. Many of our top, popular thriller authors have written about this period of our history.

Those ideals are the inspiration for my character, the mysterious and secretive assassin known to the world only as, “The Son.”

Set slightly in our future, yet close enough to be uncomfortable, these fiction mystery novels expose a layer of evil that goes untouched by the law. High ranking political figures, who use their positions to protect them, while committing unspeakable crimes.

My protagonist investigates the charges against these people and if proven to himself, he takes what he sees as “appropriate action.” His morals and ethics are patterned after the Sons of Liberty. Those revolutionary patriots are today seen as heroes, but in their time that was in question. I leave that answer, as it applies to this character, up to you.

One of my most celebrated works is The Son Series, a powerful set of fiction mystery novels that showcase not only intrigue and suspense but also the personal struggles of heroes forced to make impossible choices. The series exemplifies everything readers love about action thrillers—unpredictable storylines, emotional depth, and the constant tension of not knowing who will survive. For over the past decade I have written plausible, action fiction that has received many five-star reviews and glowing comments, from readers across the country. The plots vary in these suspense and thriller novels, but I never leave the reader hanging.

Six of my nine books are a series known as The SON Series. They are all suspenseful thrillers with fast moving action and easy to follow story lines. They are old fashioned good vs. evil books.

Readers have commented on the concise chapters that make nighttime reading more pleasurable.

The protagonist in this series is a man of the people who wishes to remain anonymous. When you do what he does, that is only possible for a short time.
Those who discover who he is do not try to stop or turn him in, but rather they hope to join or at least, help him with his “removals”.

I began putting my stories on paper after retiring from two simultaneously held careers. Those careers allowed me and my wife to raise our three children, which is the point of working, but they also exposed me to a wonderful base of characters. People I met and dealt with through the years.

They say, “people change,” and that is true. But personalities are usually dependable, reacting as you expect them to. This gives you a sense of comfort and reliability in both real friends and characters we read about or watch on television or in the movies.

Understanding how people will react to situations is very important in business and more simply, communications.
To me, storytelling is basically communicating. Expressing ideas in a way that others will understand and hopefully understand and enjoy. This is how I try to approach my writing.

I hope my characters are making friends among those who read about them. If I can accomplish that, I will continue to have happy readers who look forward to the next story.

That’s what story telling is all about, offering the best mystery thriller you can.

By then, you’ll be hooked. The Basic of Fundamentals and The Four Samaritans draw you into the stories as though you were a part.

Eight of Six is a bit of a departure with our leader having to not only stop the bad guys, but first, discover who they are. It involves a SEAL Team and a mission gone terribly wrong. Silas is called in, this time, to solve a treasonous plot to eliminate the entire group of SEALS.

The finale is The Daedalus Directive. Those who know who Daedalus was will understand instantly and enjoy the fate of those who get too close to the Son.
